This week, David J met up with Santa Cruz’s own Trestles backstage at The Venice West during one of their final tour stops.
David shared this after the show:
“Backstage with Trestles at their show at Venice West last night. Such a great band & Hunter Kelly has one of the all time great rock n’ roll voices that cuts through like a hatchet & hits all the notes. Puts me in mind of Roky Erickson in fact & the band are reminiscent of early Cure which makes them a perfect fit for ‘Legends Live & Local’ in Santa Cruz on February 27 where Lol Tolhurst & I will be joining them for the event.”

Comparing Hunter’s voice to Roky Erickson and describing the band as reminiscent of early The Cure? That’s not small praise.
And honestly — this is exactly what 3L is about.
It’s not a nostalgia show.
It’s not a tribute night.
It’s about creating authentic, cross-generational creative exchange between internationally recognized artists and the next wave coming up right here in Santa Cruz.
When David J and Lol Tolhurst join Trestles on February 27, it won’t be strangers sharing a bill. It’ll be artists who’ve already connected — musically and personally.
That’s the magic that is happening with Legends: Live & Local.
