First Friday at Big Basin Vineyard Tasting Room
Sally Bookman: Painter
Sally Bookman artistI left dreary, rainy London, England, many years ago, recognizing that I needed brightness and color in my life. After some searching, I eventually landed in Santa Cruz in the 1970’s where I embraced the color, sunshine and warmth of the Central Coast. Here, the sea is blue, the trees are green, and even the buildings seems to come alive in the glow of the California sun….all of which makes me happy. My goal in painting is to convey that happiness to others through my work.
Sally Bookman is a well-known local artist in Santa Cruz where she has lived since 1974. Over the years, Sally has designed several different posters for the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, the Capitola Art & Wine Festival, the Gilroy Garlic Festival, and the Wharf-to-Wharf Race. Sally also self-published a book, “Sand Between Your Toes” which features over 200 watercolor vignettes highlighting the unique culture and environment of Santa Cruz County.
