SANTA CRUZ, CA — The City of Santa Cruz will celebrate the completion of the Wharf End Interim Repairs project on Wednesday, April 29, reopening the southern end of the Santa Cruz Wharf to the public after winter storm damage incurred in 2024.

The repairs mark an important milestone in maintaining one of Santa Cruz’s most iconic and well-loved community spaces. With the project complete, residents and visitors can once again walk to the very end of the Wharf and enjoy sweeping views of Monterey Bay.

“The Wharf is where our community comes together to connect, enjoy the coast, and experience everything that makes Santa Cruz special,” said Parks and Recreation Director Tony Elliot. “These repairs ensure this space remains accessible, welcoming, and resilient for years to come.”

Construction began in November 2025 and was strategically scheduled during the quieter season to minimize impacts on Wharf businesses, visitors, and protected wildlife. Throughout the project, unaffected areas of the Wharf remained open, supporting local commerce and public use.

The completion of these repairs restores a cherished experience for generations of Santa Cruz residents and visitors to enjoy walking to the end of the Wharf, feeling the sea breeze, taking in the ocean views, and watching the sea lions below.

These improvements reflect the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining critical coastal infrastructure while preserving the Wharf’s character, accessibility, and role as a hub for community gathering, recreation, and economic activity.
