Santa Cruz (May 22, 2023) – The City of Santa Cruz today announced its new Santa Cruzer shuttle service will launch Memorial Day Weekend, providing convenient transportation between the Beach and Downtown via two all-electric vehicles.

The all-new Santa Cruzer shuttles provide rides that will arrive every 15 minutes at three stops, including the Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center (near the Santa Cruz Wharf) and the Locust Street Garage and Del Mar Theatre in Downtown Santa Cruz. The shuttles will operate from noon to 8 p.m. on weekends and holidays from May 27 to Sept. 4, including the Fourth of July. The cost to ride is $1.

“The Santa Cruzer makes it possible for us to deliver on two key priorities: new transportation options for visitors and locals, and decarbonizing our fleet with all-electric vehicles,” said Mayor Fred Keeley. “I can’t wait to see these distinctive vehicles carrying riders this summer between the beach area and our downtown.”

The two all-electric shuttles were acquired by the City of Santa Cruz Economic Development Department through a grant from the Monterey Bay Air Quality Control District. The shuttles can accommodate all passengers, including individuals who use wheelchairs and those accompanied by service animals. First Transit, Inc., will operate the service.

The Santa Cruzer service replaces the Santa Cruz Trolley program, which ended operations in 2019.
